Yes, he makes a valid point. Scott Mendelson also argues that: “Films about women/for women have to fight to be taken seriously while manly dramas are presumed to be of critical value until proven otherwise.” On the other hand, we as the audience have the financial power of the consumer to shape the kinds of films being produced and distributed on our screens. The final 2017 box office figures may reflect this. 🙂
