The first Afghan cameleers arrived in Melbourne in June 1860, when three men landed with a shipment of 24 camels for the Burke and Wills expedition. Up until 1900, Afghan camel handlers played an important role in opening up Central Australia, helping to build the first telegraph and railway lines across the vast continent’s desert centre.
I agree. 🙂 Camels are amazing. These camels appreciate working together with their fellow herd members. They’re well cared for and very much enjoy human interaction, especially cuddles. They’re happy and adored. Camels like these are part of a non-violent system of training humans to (re)learn trust and respect.

Camels are truly amazing. I can think of nothing less fulfilling than being part of a pack train through a dry countryside, yet they don’t seem to mind it.
